"Their houses are safe from fear,
And the rod of God is not on them." Job 21:9 (NAS)
Job is referring to evil people who appear to flourish instead of coming to punishment. It does seem that way at times. We need to remember that in the end, everyone will have to give an answer.
"I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who have set themselves against me round about." Psalm 3:6 (NAS)
God against "ten thousands of people" wins. He did create them, after all, so who's more powerful?
"In peace I will both lie down and sleep
For You alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety." Psalm 4:8 (NAS)
Can anything be more comforting than that?
"I will bless the Lord who has counseled me;
Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.
I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken
Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices:
My flesh also will dwell securely." Psalm 16:7-9 (NAS)
It's interesting to note the personal action in this passage: "I have set the Lord continually before me." and pay attention to what's happening when we are sinking in fear. Have we set the Lord continually before us?
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for you are with me;" Psalm 23:4 (NAS)
It's not always that there isn't something to be afraid of, it's that we have God with us, and He's bigger than whatever we fear.
