Do You Believe

"You believe that there is one God.  Good!  Even the demons believe that--and shudder." James 2:19 (NIV)

Do you believe?  What do you believe?  How firmly do you believe?

The demons believe in God.  And they are terrified by Him.  But their belief does not change the facts that they are evil and will spend eternity in hell.  In what way is your belief different than that?

Jesus said in John 14:15, "If you love me, keep my commands." (NIV)

What did Jesus command?  "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you."  John 15:12 (NIV)

Does your belief in the Lord change your heart, and does that change of heart show in your actions?

Privilege

"Delight yourself in the Lord;

And He will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4 (NAS)

Years ago I attended a lavish company party that a couple of coworkers boycotted, considering it a frivolous waste of the boss's money.  Everyone who chose to go was selfish and greedy, just looking for a good time, they said.

Our employer was furious.  He had indeed put out a hefty sum, with the sole intention of giving us a great time.  The money was his to spend as he chose, and he took personal offense at his offering being scorned, not to mention their nasty attitude being an insult to those who did appreciate his efforts.

Jesus told a similar story in Luke 14.

Take time to contemplate the blessings God continually pours out on us.  Search how often the Bible says to rejoice.  Think about the week of creation, and the incredible detail He put into the world He made, for us.  Are we privileged?  Absolutely.  Enjoy it.  Share it.  Be grateful for it.

Every single person has access to this same privilege.  Don't ever, for one moment, let anyone make you feel guilty for it.
